In here, the customer can group gifts from different friends so that he or she can have a much higher total amount of money in the coupon and has a chance at buying a much more expensive gift. This kind of gifting is very important for the merchant as this opens up the door to replication effects in gifting where there are groups around this core group.
In addition, the power of digitized coupons lies in allowing the people to trade coupons and build their social network that contains coupons information. These social networks are reminiscent of social graphs from today'scommon social media like Facebook and LinkedIn. Coupons lead to more coupons and the rank of the customer increases in the merchant database. Thus, if there are two coupons one of a value 100 dollars with a pizza store that cashable anywhere and one of a value of 100 dollars with a jeans store that is cashable only in the jeans store, the customer can merge the coupons and use them in the jeans store for a total value of 150 dollars. The pizza store merchant receives the difference 50 dollars coupon and re-issue this coupon to the customer.
